Faith Community Nurses in the Twin Cities donate more than 75,000 hours of professional service each year - a gift valued at $2,625,000.

Faith Community Nurses make about 100,000 home visits in the Twin Cities each year - and never charge for their services.

Our research (published in the Journal of Gerontological Nursing) found Faith Community Nursing interventions with 1,000 seniors not only saved lives, but also resulted in cost savings of $3.5 million.

Faith community nursing is a new area of practice and today, almost half of the faith community nurses practicing in the Twin Cities are working as unpaid staff, while those who are paid work at well below nursing scale.

Why?

Because they feel called to live out their faith by making this tangible contribution to their community. Regardless of our particular faith tradition, we are all directed to care for our neighbors. Through this mission of health and healing, faith community nurses reclaim the historic nursing role of caring for the mind, body and spirit.

How can you support faith community nursing?

  • A gift of $250 will provide a scholarship for an RN to attend the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Course. (The regular price for this 36 CEU course is $550 and we try to offer $250 scholarships to at least 1/3 of the participants.)
  • A gift of $100 allows a nursing student or a retired Faith Community Nurse to attend one of our 3.6 CEU Continuing Education workshops. We offer 4 workshops each year and an average of 95 FCNs attend each workshop. (An RN must earn 24 CEUs every two years to maintain her license.)
  • A gift of $50 will enable FCNN to continue to communicate and network with more than 400 faith community nurses throughout the greater Twin Cities, helping them maintain important connections with one another and valuable community resources.
